The way I see it, we ask for the moon from our suppliers, if they only get us 3/4 of the way there, that's that much less travel for next time, and it sets a precedent! 😉 . In the current Wired, when asked why he chose to have vocals on his latest release, Brian Eno said: “I make instrumental music like diarrhea, it just flows out of me”. Errr, nice choice of words??? . As far as the said vocals, meh, it’s kinda like when “that guy” from Dead Can Dance (Brendan Perry) sings instead of Lisa Gerrard. Somehow it just doesn’t have the same impact. . This album, what can I say, can’t stop singing when it plays. Everyone in the band was strung out and/or grieving at the time. A real low point. But sad humans make for good music. BTW: 2 drummers and 2 lead guitars in the same band? What a train-wreck of a concept on paper. Sam says “the turntable is a restored Dual 1229 from the mid 70s with a Denon DL-160 cartridge, the phono preamp is a a Parks Audio Budgie Hybrid running Telefunken E88C/6922 tubes, and the speakers are Klipsch Forte IVs. The Fortes are super efficient and easy to power, but that said, the Billie seriously rocks them and has surprisingly low noise with almost no hiss as the tonearm picks up.” . . Now that Elton John has fully transitioned into your favorite aunt, it's nice to know he's still standing. On his farewell tour, Elton made a stop at the Whitehouse lawn to be honoured with the National Humanities Medal. . God I love this man's voice, almost as much as I hate his piano sound of late -damn you Yamaha pianos!. And while his vocal range has decapitated with age, he can still move us with his renditions of even his most famous and overplayed repertoire. . Went to the New Order @neworderofficial show at Toronto's Budweiser stage this weekend. Some great moments, and I loved how they reworked the song intros to keep you guessing. The band was really into it. The fans were definitely older, let’s call em New Older 😂 but hey at least they weren’t on their phone all the time. I've been known to say that some of the harder Aphex Twin tracks sound like "shitting silicon bricks": such artificial, glassy, digital detritus can be painful to the ear (Ventolin -ouch!). . But listening to Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (an album made for "headphones and marijuana”), it's held up quite well with the passing of time, way above most of his peers. Plus, what a strange, complex persona: hiding an Easter Egg in a track's spectrogram?
