The Billie Amp
Serious sound | Nothing in the way

Tube warmth, modern clarity, and looks that earn a spot on the credenza, not inside it.

A hybrid integrated amplifier for the format-agnostic music lover. Billie plays it all, from the turntable to the phone in your pocket.

When was the last time music gave you goosebumps?

Billie is made for listeners who want high performance without black-box boredom. From first spin to last track, it keeps you in the moment, revealing new layers in albums you thought you knew. Connection and emotion: drop the needle, press play, stream.

Analog Heart | Silicon Soul

At the heart of Billie is a carefully voiced tube preamp, a glowing analog stage that brings warmth, texture, and soul to your music. It feeds a modern Class D amplifier built for effortless drive, control, and efficiency.

Tubes bring a harmonic richness pure Class D can’t reach. Class D brings grip and bass control pure tube amps never manage. Together they make a sound neither does alone: rich, dimensional, with a soundstage that goes way beyond the speakers.

Design Matters | Emotion is a Function

Billie’s design is rooted in hifi’s classics: the knob hierarchy, the materials and proportions, the tube glow. We kept the language and cut the clutter.

At first glance, Billie’s 2 controls seem too simple: one sets the volume, the other selects the source. The complexity is all underneath, where it belongs.

  • To turn on the amp, turn up the volume. To turn off, lower it to zero. The music smoothly fades in and out of your space.
  • Push and hold the source selector to pair Bluetooth. Tap it to mute.

Billie has no screen, by design. The tubes carry the signals instead. Small LEDs sit at the base of each socket, pulsing you messages in their own morse code.

  • Send a remote command and the tubes wink: received.
  • Tap to mute and they breathe.
  • At power-up, they flash while the tubes warm up.

A few more cues turn up the longer you live with it. They read clearly from your listening chair (who can read a tiny screen from across the room anyway?)

These actions and reactions, the textures and proportions, are an invitation to touch, to engage.

Good design shows up in the hand before the eye: the weight of a knob, the fade of the volume, the click of the selector. Design decides what living with a product feels like, long after the unboxing.

Modular by Design Made for Many, Uniquely Yours

Billie’s modularity lets you fine-tune the amp to your taste: musical or detailed, forgiving or revealing. Choose your power core, your DAC, your headphone amp. Upgrade any of them later. Made for many, but built for you.

  • Customizable Power Core |  Choose between two of the most respected names in Class D: ICEpower and Hypex.
  • Modular DAC and headphone |  Single or dual-chip DAC, single or dual-mono headphone amp.
  • Firmware updates on Mac and PC.
  • Choose your power core. Then upgrade the rest over time.

Class D Power Core | What’s Your Signature Sound?

No two listeners want the same sound. So Billie lets you define its silicon soul: the ICEpower 200AS2 for warmth and momentum, or the Hypex NC252MP for speed and precision. Same Billie, voiced two ways.

Tubes | Power & Grace

Tubes have been around for over a hundred years for one reason: their sound. The articulate midrange, the velvety highs, the harmonic overtones digital can’t fake. And they’re easy to live with. Preamp tubes need no maintenance, last at least 10,000 hours, and install in seconds. If you can change a lightbulb, you can change a tube.

An all-tube amp is power-hungry and maintenance-prone, but most of the tube magic happens at the preamp stage, not the power stage, so Billie keeps the tubes exactly where they count.

Why the ECC99?

We chose JJ’s ECC99 for its tonal character: airy highs and beefy mid-bass. The tube you choose shapes the sound you hear. Swap it, and Billie follows. Unlike EQ, a tube swap changes the harmonic profile and gain structure itself. Swap the ECC99 for Electro Harmonix’s 12BH7 and you get a darker signature with a more marked roll-off, useful in brighter systems.

Who’s Billie? | Body & Soul

We named the amp for Billie Holiday. No voice ever carried more truth per note: imperfect, expressive, alive. That’s the standard we build to. Not flawless sound. Honest sound.

Coming from an MK2? | Key Upgrades and Enhancements

Five reasons to upgrade ↓

Modular Design: Swap and upgrade the power core, DAC, and headphone amp over time. The MK2 was fixed.

Your choice of core and edition: Two Class D power cores (ICEpower or Hypex) and two editions (Classic or Spartan). The MK2 came one way only.

A better DAC, more inputs: The ESS ES9039 (384kHz/32-bit, DSD256) and 8 inputs including USB-C and dual optical. The MK2 used the older ES9018K2M with fewer inputs.

A more adaptable phonostage: Switchable MM standard, MM high-gain, or line-in bypass. The MK2 had two MM gain settings but no line bypass.

Relay input switching: Premium relays replace the MK2’s analog switches for cleaner channel separation, better input isolation, and a lower noise floor.

Other enhancements: The tube preamp has been refined and runs quieter than ever. Beyond that: upgraded headphone amplifiers, longer Bluetooth range, more inputs, and firmware updates can be done on both Mac and PC.
